		<description><![CDATA[What a great post! Pretty much everyone I know has been burned by not understanding how W-4&#039;s work. It gets even more complicated for those of us who had a kid...exemptions, credits, deductions, oy!

I get how people see their tax refund as a nice chunk of change or as a locked savings account - similar to a santa savings account. 

However, it&#039;s an interest free loan to the government and it&#039;s super easy to make this political (which I won&#039;t).

As a former finance industry professional - in banking and investment services - I would encourage every young professional to sit down with a tax advisor once. You hopefully have some retirement accounts set up by now and between those and figuring out what exemptions to claim, it&#039;s a good idea to get an expert&#039;s opinion.

I&#039;m so sorry you ended up in the red, but the bright side is you&#039;re both employed and can learn from this for future tax filings!]]></description>
